Curriculum
At St Patrick’s we provide a well-rounded and child centered early education approach. The combination of play-based learning, continuous and enhanced provision, and adult-directed lessons creates a dynamic environment for young learners. By incorporating the ‘Development Matters’ document and working toward the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) Framework (EYFS Framework), we are aiming to set up our children for strong, well-rounded progress.
The use of both indoor and outdoor learning environments offers a balance between structured and exploratory learning, which is great for fostering creativity, problem-solving, and independence. Continuous provision ensures consistency and familiarity, while enhanced provision allows for flexibility and adaptation to current topics and themes. There is a focus on personalising learning to meet the individual needs of each child, helping ensure they thrive in all areas.
By integrating subjects like phonics, literacy, maths, and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic education), the children are given opportunities to learn new concepts and practice them in their play. We encourage children to be active participants in their own learning and allows them to build confidence and independence in a supportive, yet challenging, environment.
Reception Transition
A child starting school can be a daunting experience for parents and children so our school ensure that the transition process is a positive and happy one. This is the first stage of your child’s learning journey so we help this process by:
Phonics – Read Write Inc
We follow the Read Write Inc phonics scheme of learning. Children have daily phonics lessons where they learn the letter names and the sounds they make. Children learn how to read using the sounds they know to blend words together. Phonics is taught in smaller groups in order to meet the needs of all children. We assess the children every half term and then place them into the appropriate group for their level and provide additional intervention based on this.
Tapestry
At our school we use Tapestry which is an online learning journal for each child. You will have your own individual log in, in which you can view weekly pictures or videos of your child’s learning. You can comment on these observations and you can add your child’s home achievements, which we can celebrate at school!
